Mapping & Information

GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is a computer-based mapping and modeling information system that is used by every city department. GIS enables the city to combine and layer large amounts of raster (georeferenced scanned maps or encoded pixel values with pixel location) maps, latitude/longitude (GPS) locations, aerial/satellite imagery, and geographically based vector information (spatial data). The GIS Division provides geographic capabilities, analysis, maps, and data to city departments, residents, contractors, developers, and other US government agencies.

Brighton GIS Division

The City of Brighton's GIS Division primarily focuses on providing GIS and mapping capabilities for mapping/reporting city infrastructure assets such as city boundaries, ward boundaries, optical fiber, trees, streets, snowplow routes, cemeteries, bike trails, graffiti, city facilities, water, sewer, and sanitary manholes and lines. In addition, GIS assists in providing information for community planning, parcel properties, addressing, basic zoning/land use, events, grants, maps/data for contractors, and parks and open space information.

To accurately map features, the City's GIS utilizes Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and aerial photo-imagery to precisely locate and map features across the beautiful Brighton landscape. The GIS Division utilizes ESRI ArcGIS Pro 3.x, enterprise multiuser geodatabase, Portal, and enterprise ArcServer 11 GIS software and maintains layers, data, and imagery. For more information, view the ESRI website.
