Housing Needs Assessment and Incentives Implementation

Summary:

The City of Brighton has been awarded grant funding through the State of Colorado's Department of Local Affairs to develop a housing needs assessment and incentives strategy plan, including the implementation of land use/zoning code and policy updates to incentivize and/or reduce barriers to affordable housing development in Brighton.

Current Step:

Gruen Gruen + Associates, a consultant working with the City in partnership with the Brighton Housing Authority, has completed a report that includes recommended strategies and incentives for ways to increase affordable housing in Brighton, community housing survey results, housing development economics, existing housing conditions and trends that focused on housing inventory, market conditions, housing affordability, and our economic base and labor force. The data and analysis contained within the report will prove to be useful as staff moves forward on the recommended strategies and incentives.

Next Step:

City staff is working on analyzing how the recommendations contained within the report can be implemented for Brighton. The expectation is that components of the recommendations will be brought before City Council for their consideration as necessary work is completed.

Updates on what has been brought forward will be posted to this page as implementation occurs.
