City of Brighton Acting City Manager Marv Falconburg is pleased to announce the appointment of Maria Ostrom to serve as Director of Finance. Ostrom has served as the interim Finance Director since May. As Director, Ostrom will oversee financial reporting, accounting, payroll, budget implementation, procurement and contracts, tax collections and licensing, and utility billing and customer service.
Prior to joining the City of Brighton, Ostrom worked for the City of Thornton for 22 years. In Thornton, she served as an auditor, audit manager, tax and investment manager, assistant finance director and most recently finance director. While in Thornton, Ostrom was instrumental in creating a fiscal impact model to assist policymakers in understanding the revenue generated and significant cost drivers related to different types of land use. She also developed a needs-based water assistance program that provided temporary financial assistance to utility customers.
Ostrom received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in accountancy from the University of Denver and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Ostrom is a member of the Colorado Society of CPAs, the Government Finance Officers Association, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
