Winner selected for 2021 Arbor Day Fifth Grade Poster Contest

The City of Brighton is pleased to announce Pennock Elementary Fifth Grader Lucy Ratkiewicz as the winner of the City’s annual Arbor Day Fifth Grade Poster Contest. The contest gives students the opportunity to show their creativity to raise awareness of trees and the important role they play in the environment.

“It was hard to choose a winner because we got so many great submissions, but Lucy’s design really stood out,” said Adam Rhodebeck, City of Brighton Forester.

As part of her prize, Ratkiewicz was recognized by City Council at the April 20 meeting. As part of the statewide contest, Ratkiewicz’s design is now in the state competition and is one of the final round posters.

The city-wide contest includes several other prizes for winners, including trees for students who place 2nd and 3rd place, a tree for the teacher who places 1st, and a tree for the winning school.
