Joint Message From 27J and Brighton Police Regarding Incident at PVHS

This afternoon Prairie View High School administration was alerted to a possible threat to the school stemming from an altercation involving students that started off campus. When the involved students returned to school, they were met by police and campus security. During a subsequent search of a student vehicle, one handgun was recovered. Brighton Police put the school in a precautionary lockdown at that time. Police conducted a thorough search of the school. No firearms were recovered inside the school. Three individuals were taken into custody by Brighton Police officers.

Once police had taken the involved individuals into custody, the lockdown was transitioned to a Hold where students remained in their classroom as the investigation continued. No students were harmed and the Hold was lifted at about 3:15 p.m. Routine schedules were resumed at the school and officers worked with school staff to release students to parents and allow other students to be dismissed once police had finished their work in the parking lot.
