The Brighton Police Department Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on April 16 at approximately 9:30 p.m. The initial investigation reveals that a motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on County Road 2 approaching County Road 31 when the vehicle driving in front of him, a Dodge Ram 2500, quickly slowed down to avoid a collision with a vehicle that turned left in front of the Ram. The motorcyclist was identified as 39-year-old Carlos Padilla of Brighton.
The motorcyclist applied the brakes and skidded over 50 feet before colliding with the rear bumper of the Ram. The motorcyclist was ejected and he was not wearing a helmet. Carlos Padilla was transported to Platte Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. At this time, it appears that speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. The driver of the Ram was not injured, he was cooperative and showed no signs of impairment.
The TSU investigates all serious and fatal crashes. This is an ongoing investigation, and anyone with information related to this crash is requested to call our Tip Line at 303-655-8740. Brighton Police are urging everyone to use caution, pay attention, drive sober and obey the speed limit.
