Request a Police Record

The Brighton Police Department releases copies of criminal justice records according to state statutes and federal regulations.  All requests for inspection or release of criminal justice records require the completion of an open records request form.

• If you wish to fill out a hard copy records request form, please visit the Brighton Police Department at 3401 E. Bromley Ln. Any day between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., a records specialist will gladly assist you.
• If you wish to submit an electronic records request form and you want to pick it up from the Police Department, please complete this online form. To submit an email request, complete and email this Records Request form to recordsrequest@brightonco.gov.
• If you wish to submit an electronic records request form and you plan to pay with a credit/debit card, please complete this online form through LexisNexis.
• If you wish to purchase a crash report, please visit www.crashdocs.org or www.buycrash.com.
  • Please be advised that the case number you are given by the officer will look similar to this 21-1234 – when searching on crashdocs.org, you will need to have the computer-generated case number, which is actually written with a 12CN at the front and zeros separating the year and case number – 12CN21001234. You can also do an advanced search using your VIN.

Sex Offender Registration

• Sexual Offender initial registration fee: $75.00
• Sexual Offender re-registration fee: $25.00

Background/Immigration Checks

• Local Criminal History Records Check/Immigration Letter: $15.00

VIN Inspections

• Residents: No Charge
• Non-Residents: $15.00

Report Requests (per case number)

• VRA Crime Reports
  • 1st Copy (Offense/Incident Report/Crash Report): No Charge
  • Additional Reports- per page (Supplemental, Statements, etc.): $0.25/page
• All Other Requestors and additional copy for VRA Crime Victims
  • 1-10 pages (Current Year and 1 Prior Year): $5.00
  • Each additional page: $0.25/page
• Report retrieval and copy expense for reports prior to above
  • 1-10 pages: $10.00
  • Each additional page: $0.25/page

Research/Retrieval/Redaction

• Staff research and redaction time billed in half hour increments at $15.00 per half hour.

Microfilm reports

• $3.00/page

Digital Data (videos, photos, audio, etc.)*

• Under 4GB: $15.00/disc plus research/retrieval/redaction fee
• Over 4GB: $25.00/flash drive plus research/retrieval/redaction fee
