Welcome to City of Brighton Youth Sports!
Our goal is to provide Youth Sports Programs that are affordable and accessible to all children in the community; most of all we aim to make sure that our youth develop a love of sports by teaching basic skills, encouraging teamwork, and having fun!
Important Notice: The City of Brighton reserves the right to close any Sports Registration prior to the deadline to properly accommodate teams and ensure there is enough field and gym space for proper usage

The City of Brighton’s Youth Basketball program focuses on fundamentals, sportsmanship, safety, and enjoyment. There isn’t a better way to introduce your son or daughter to the sport of basketball.
- Youth Basketball is offered each winter from approximately mid-January through the last week of February.
- Coaches offer equal playing time to each player.

CARA Basketball Skills Challenge is a FREE, exciting event providing boys and girls the opportunity to showcase their passing, shooting, and dribbling abilities. The top finishers in Brighton have the chance to go to the sectionals and state competitions. All participants will receive a certificate.

Join the Brighton Tennis Team and play in matches against other teams throughout the Front Range. Compete with players of the same age and skill level in a low-pressure, fun setting. Coaching is geared towards the individual. Participants must provide own transportation to matches and practice.

Cross Country running is offered to youth 7-16 years of age. Youth interested in distance running start learning the mental and physical demands of the sport. Participants attend cross country meets with the same age youth across the metro area. Please bring a photocopy of birth certificate.

This program provides instruction by Coach Liz Lee in track and field events. Everyone can participate! The recreation center fields a team for the summer track and field meet. Transportation to meets is not provided. For more information, please contact Coach Liz Lee.

At the Brighton Youth Sports Department, we strongly believe that flag football is a sport that everyone can play regardless of skill, size, or strength.
- Games are based on the NFL "Air it Out" format, where each team plays with 7 players on the field at a time.
- Games and practices are held at local parks. Each child plays equal time no matter the skill level.
- All practices will be held on weekdays and are determined by the team's coach. Coaches will call the parents to let them know the days practices have been scheduled.
- Games are scheduled on Saturdays at Brighton Park.
- Players are placed on a team according to age.
- Each child will be given a game shirt for them to keep.
- Players are not required to wear cleats. No player are allowed to wear metal cleats.
- Players will also be issued flag belts, by the coaches, to wear during games and practice.

An introduction to the game of soccer for your little one. Peewee is three-on-three soccer with no goalie. Practice on Saturdays, 30 minutes before the game. Coaches will be required to officiate peewee games. Parents are needed to coach!
This program is a low-key recreational program with emphasis on fun, education and safety. No game scores or league standings are kept. We require parents to volunteer as coaches. Coaches will select the team’s practice schedule. Games are played on Saturdays at either Brighton or Benedict Park. Parents are needed to coach!

General Information
Tennis classes are offered at the Brighton High School Tennis Courts at 8th and Southern. Register your child now and spend the summer improving their skills and enjoying the game of tennis. Wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothing. Please bring your own racket – balls are provided. Lessons are Mondays–Thursdays. Classes offered include:
Beginner: For the brand-new player or just starting. Skills taught include forehand, backhand, volley, serve, scoring and court etiquette.
Intermediate: For players who have accomplished basic skills. Review basic strokes, scoring, court awareness, and strategy. Learn good footwork, topspin, and control.
Parents Responsibilities
- Make sure the children get to lessons on time.
- Make sure to pick up your child from the lessons on time.
- Talk to the tennis instructor concerning any questions or problems.
- Remind the children that the tennis instructor has a ten-minute break in between each set of lessons.

This program offers girls and boys the opportunity to learn baseball, coordination, and sportsmanship skills in a low-pressure setting. Practices are held 30 minutes before each game played on Friday evenings. Bring your own glove.
- Schedules will be available a week prior to games
- Each coach will have an equipment bag (containing a tee & balls)
- Each child will be responsible for providing his/her own glove and bat
- Umpires: Coach Officiated
- Duration of Game: 45 minutes or until each team has batted three times

The Brighton Youth Volleyball League is designed to encourage participation for all kiddos ages 8-13, who want to play volleyball. Above all, the league is directed at children/teens with the idea of fun participation and excitement while learning the sport of volleyball in a positive environment. Some specific purposes for the league are:
- To give each child the opportunity to learn the importance of good sportsmanship and fair play competition.
- To teach the basic rules, skills, and techniques involved in volleyball so that each child may play and enjoy the game.
- To give each child the opportunity to meet in friendly competition with other children of the same age.
- To expose players to different styles of coaching strategies to further develop their skills.
Important Information:
- 8–9-Year-olds practice one-hour per week which are held on evenings during the week, at the Brighton Recreation Center and local schools.
- 10-11 and 12-13 have Two, one-hour or one, two-hour practices per week which are held on evenings during the week, at the Brighton Recreation Center and local schools.
- 6 games will be scheduled for each team on 6 consecutive weeks.

This fun and engaging Introduction to Pickleball Camp is perfect for kids ages 8–15 who are new to the game or looking to build their foundational skills. Held twice a week for three weeks, participants will learn the basics of pickleball including rules, scoring, serving, court positioning, and sportsmanship. Each session will include skill development drills, interactive games, and match play to help build confidence and teamwork. By the end of the camp, players will feel comfortable on the court and ready to continue playing this fast-growing and exciting sport!

Brighton Parks & Recreation Department Goals & Purpose for Youth Sports
- To give every child the opportunity to participate in Youth Sports, regardless of ability.
- To teach the participants the skills and fundamentals of the sport in which they are participating.
- To encourage the participants’ development of sportsmanship, team play, and leadership.
- To teach the participants that competition and winning are not the primary objective; therefore, a strong commitment should be made towards improvement of skills and having fun!!
- To encourage coaches to teach children that success does not require winning a game and that losing does not mean one is a failure.
- To have coaches teach kids to strive for excellence, to do the best they can.
- To have mandatory playing rules to guarantee participation opportunities for every child.
*To achieve these goals and objectives, Brighton recreation services need the cooperation and assistance from every parent and coach. Every decision concerning the youth athletes participating in athletic programs should be to benefit all the youth participating.

During any Youth Sports event Brighton Parks & Recreation Department prohibits behavior which is inappropriate, such as: profanity, abusive language or behavior, smoking and the consumption of alcohol, removal of any Brighton Rec. property, or criminal conduct.
Youth Sports schedules are available on Teams Sideline. This website allows you to sign up for league communications. Through these communications you will receive a text and email regarding any weather cancellations and/or scheduling changes. You will only receive communication for the sports that your child is signed up for.
The success of the program depends on parent involvement. We need your help as volunteer coaches and officials. If you’re interested or have questions about coaching, please contact the Brighton Recreation Center at 303-655-2200.
