Property & Evidence

The property and evidence team works under the Professional Standards Division. They process major crime scenes, collect forensic evidence, and manage all property and evidence taken in by the department.

Due to the large volume of property collected by the Police department If you have questions or concerns, please contact Rebekah Altizer at 303-498-1243 or email property_evidence@brightonco.gov. Please leave a detailed message with your name, phone number, case number if known and the item(s) in question. Property is released by appointment only Tuesday through Friday from 8am-4pm. Property and evidence is also closed on city holidays.

Safekeeping and found property items are held for sixty (60) days by City of Brighton policy. If you are unable to personally pick up property held for safekeeping with the Brighton Police Department, you may designate an individual to pick up the property on your behalf. To do this, Property and Evidence requires a notarized letter signed by you designating the named individual and what property is to be released.

Digital Evidence

For digital evidence requests such as photos, video, or body camera footage, please fill out the provided Digital Evidence Records Request form and email it to evid_com@brightonco.gov. Requests will be completed in the order they are received with some requests taking additional time due to redaction of information.
