City of Brighton Announces Finalists for 2024 Traffic Box Mural Project


The City of Brighton is pleased to announce the five adult finalists and two youth finalists for its 2024 Traffic Box Mural Project.

Adult Finalists:

  • Shay Guerrero, “Axolotl Alebrijes” 
  • Sam Barnum, “Bison” 
  • Danielle Ramos, “Mesoamerican Vibrancy” 
  • Anduriel Widmark, “Floral Weave” 
  • Michelle Wolins, “Transformation” 

Youth Finalists: 

  • Marshall Barrett, third grader, “Epic Space Exploration”
  • Abigail Bargas, tenth grade, “Beauty in Tragedy”

Earlier this year, the city invited artists to participate in transforming traffic signal boxes into captivating public art installations. The call for art garnered more than 130 submissions. From these, judges selected 15 pieces and sought community input. More than 1,200 votes were received during the weeklong public voting.  The selected art will be installed this summer and remain on display for at least two years. In addition to their artwork being showcased in the community, selected artists will also receive a $500 honorarium.

Adult Winners:

Anduriel-Widmark_Floral-Weave

Anduriel Widmark, Denver, CO: “Floral Weave” - Located at 4th Avenue and Bromley Lane 

 About the Artist: Born and raised in the picturesque landscapes of Colorado, the artist draws inspiration from the natural beauty that surrounded them from a young age. Working across various mediums, including glass and paint, they bring a versatile and dynamic approach to making art.

Michelle Wolins_Transformation

Michelle Wolins, Conifer: “Transformation” - Located at Main Street and Bridge Street 

About the Artist: As a long-time graphic designer for various Denver-area healthcare institutions, Michelle believes in the power of thoughtful public art to improve public health and well-being.

Danielle-Ramos_Mesoamerican-Vibrancy

Danielle Ramos, Wheat Ridge: “Mesoamerican Vibrancy” - Located at Eagle Blvd. and Prairie Center Pkwy. 

About the Artist: Danielle is an artist living in Wheat Ridge. Danielle is committed to sharing culture of Mesoamerica through bright and colorful art!


 Sam-Barnum_Bison

Sam Barnum, Westminster : Bison” - Located at 45th Avenue and Bridge Street 

About the Artist: Sam is a student graduating from Community College of Denver with an associate's degree in science and transferring to CU Denver to pursue science illustration. Sam's passion is animals and science communication. Sam loves opening discourse to nature and science.

Shay-GuerreroAxolotl-Alebrijes

Shay Guerrero, Thornton: "Axolotl Alebrijes" - Located at 27th Avenue and Eagle Blvd.

Shay is a Colorado native." Shay said, "I specialize in artwork dedicated pride for my Mexican culture and the beauty of our traditions and holidays. I started my business heART Dog art studio after losing my soul dog Willy. I create pet portraits turning pets into your "Alebrije" or sprit guide as known in Oaxacan tradition." Shay is a long standing member of CHAC Gallery in Denver and have curated many of the shows!   



Youth Winners:


Marshall-Barrett1

Marshall Barrett, Brighton, third grader: “Epic Space Exploration” - Located at 8th Avenue and Bromley Lane 

Marshall is a Brighton third-grader who loves to play sports, board games, and video games! He is a funny kid who cracks up everybody around him. Marshall also enjoys off-roading and overland camping in the mountains.

Abigail-Bargas1

Abigail Bargas, Lochbuie, tenth grade: “Beauty in Tragedy” - Located at 27th Avenue and Bromley Lane 

Abigail is 16 years old and lives in Lochbuie. Abigail enjoys making art to keep occupied when not in school. Abigail says, "Family is very important to me."
