Pursuant to City of Brighton Municipal Code Section 12-8-20, “The responsibility for maintenance and repairs to the sidewalk, curb or gutter is solely the responsibility of the owner (or his or her tenant) of the property abutting such sidewalk, curb or gutter.”
Also pursuant to City of Brighton Municipal Code, any and all sidewalk replacements must conform to City of Brighton Standards and be installed by a Licensed, Insured and Bonded contractor hired by the property owner.
The City recognizes concrete repairs can be costly and an unforeseeable expense to the property owner. The 50/50 Sidewalk Replacement Program aims to alleviate some of the financial burden by providing assistance to homeowners. The 50/50 program will cover 50% of the replacement cost leaving the homeowner with only half the cost.
This program also includes the contracting portion which would reduce the arduous task of finding a licensed, insured, and bonded contractor.
This program was successfully implement last year at more then a dozen locations. The funding this year will continue to be utilized on a first come first served basis and while funds are available.
